The Lodge was founded during 1965 by former pupils of Hertford Grammar School, being Members of the Old Hertfordian Association. RW Bro Col. Alexander Woods, MBE performed the Ceremony at Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury. The School was founded in 1617 by Richard Hale, who was Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1631. His Family Arms formed the basis of the School Badge from which the Lodge Crest is taken, with the Old Hale School of 1614 in the background and Chevron Engrailed Or. The motto is ‘Doctrina Cum Virtute’ meaning ‘Learning with Manliness’.
