Today I have had to take the difficult decision to suspend Lodge meetings in Hertfordshire until 5th January 2021.
This has not been undertaken without a great deal of thought but my overriding concern has been to safeguard members of the Province, the local community and the NHS as we enter a new phase of restrictions under Tier 2.
The news this morning of the certification of one of the Covid-19 vaccines gives great hope that the end of the pandemic is indeed in sight and it seems to me that a further period of suspension will be a price worth paying to achieve that aim sooner rather than later.
It will not be necessary for Lodge Secretaries to issue summonses for meetings that would have taken place during the suspension period and, as before, a simple note in the Lodge Minute Book that the meeting was unable to be held because of the formal suspension will suffice.
As the situation in the country is one of flux, and guidance from the Government is being regularly updated, I will review the circumstances that prevail immediately after the New Year with a view to either lifting the suspension or extending it for a further period.
