The Lodge today

Fair Green Lodge continues to offer realistic and timely officer progression. With a membership that spans from younger to more senior, experienced brethren, this is a Lodge that thrives on its overall friendliness, attraction of visitors and sincere attitude towards nurturing brethren to be their level best, coupled together with atmospheric Festive Board’s and social engagements.

Our history

Fair Green Lodge was sponsored by Stuart Lodge No. 8578 and consecrated at Cheshunt on 20th March 1991. It was formed primarily to enable Master Masons to achieve a faster progression to the Master's chair as some faced a theoretical period of twenty years in their own Lodges. The Lodge takes its name from its location at Sawbridgeworth, where the Charter to hold a fair on the green dates from 1306. The main theme of the Lodge crest is a fair tent. The Lodge prides itself on its Taylor’s working ritual, renowned for its detail and ceremonial content.

In the community

The Lodge strategy has always been to be openly available to the local community. Several long-term members of the Lodge are active members of local charities. Support for local charities has been active for many years, normally taking the form of referrals/approaches from these local organisations. This will continue to be the strategy that the Lodge will follow. The Lodge has always felt that the decision to volunteer for any activity is a personal one. It could be discussed within the Lodge on any occasion but no action plan exists at present. All brethren would be made aware of current activities and requirements via the Lodge WhatsApp chat group. As a general rule, the Lodge feels that the level of social media employed is sufficient. Many brethren subscribe to the popular social media apps and monitor what is happening in the local community. The Lodge does not feel the need to “advertise” their activities or look for recognition for what has been contributed.

Testimonials

We receeive numerous letters of thanks for our charitable support and donations, which we are proud to acknowledge in our Lodge meetings. Brother Bob Parris continues to support the CanalAbility charity for disadvantaged adults and children, whilst the Lodge regularly looks to support local charities and raise additional funds by the Masters luncheons and social engagements. Supporting charities is at the heart of the Lodge, but equally, we have numerous members who do this in their own time.
