The Lodge today
Old Verulamians Lodge was founded to serve old boys and teachers of Verulam school in St Albans. Being an ex-pupil or teacher of the school is not a requirement for membership. The lodge upholds the founding ethos of providing positive support for young men, now and in the future.
The Lodge has its closest affiliation to Verulam School in St Albans, and with the Old Verulamians Association, the school’s alumni organisation.
The Lodge strives to extend the connection of brotherhood that is fostered in good boys’ schools into the broader community of Freemasonry, helping young men forge strong friendships and camaraderie that lasts a lifetime, to make responsible choices and live an honourable life. Such strong masonic friendships are evidenced in our twinned relationship with the Old Albanian Lodge, a lodge established for those with connections to St Albans School.
The lodge has recently welcomed many new members, whose contributions are already positively shaping and setting a secure future for this lodge.
Our history
The lodge was founded by members of the Old Verulamians Rugby club and ex-pupils of Verulam School in St Albans. The first meeting of the lodge was held in the school hall in 1964.
In the community
The lodge favours the support of smaller organisations within the local community, and often those which have personal significance to members or their families. In this way, relatively small amounts of money or personal support can be more impactful. The lodge is also a keen supporter of the Masonic Fishing charity
Other info
The lodge recognises the value and importance of creating opportunities for its members to meet socially outside of more formal masonic meetings. The Old Verulamians hold numerous social events throughout the year, with informal meals at favourite local venues being the most popular, where members can socialise with family and friends.
