Our history
Waytemore Castle Lodge No. 8920 was consecrated in 1980, drawing its name and inspiration from the historic Norman castle mound that overlooks Bishop’s Stortford. Founded by local Freemasons who sought to create a lodge rooted in friendship and community, it quickly became known for its welcoming nature and strong ritual practice. Over the decades, the lodge has grown in character and membership, maintaining close ties with the Province of Hertfordshire and embracing both tradition and thoughtful evolution.
In the community
Waytemore Castle Lodge No. 8920 plays an active and heartfelt role in the local community, regularly supporting a range of charitable causes through fundraising, sponsorship, and volunteer efforts. Our members are proud to contribute time and energy to initiatives that make a real difference—most recently raising a significant sum for Teens Unite, a charity supporting young people facing cancer. Whether through organised events or quiet acts of service, the Lodge embodies the Masonic values of compassion and generosity, strengthening our bonds with the wider community and each other.
