Terry has had more than 40 years’ experience in local newspapers and magazines and was editor of his local paper for 22 years. Following redundancy in 2017, he is currently in the process of setting up an editorial, PR and marketing consultancy. He holds an Honorary Master of Letters degree from the University of Hertfordshire for services to the county and local journalism.

He is also a borough councillor on Welwyn Hatfield Council, representing Panshanger Ward in Welwyn Garden City.
He has been a serial charity fundraiser over many decades, raising thousands of pounds for a variety of local and national worthy causes including Willow, Isabel Hospice, Herts Air Ambulance, Herts Action on Disability, Macmillan, and The British Heart Foundation. His Masonic career has spanned more than three decades – currently SLGR, he is a VO for Metropolitan Grand Lodge. He was initiated into the True and Faithful Lodge No. 8562 in 1982, and joined East Hertfordshire Lodge No. 3748 in 2014. He is also a member of Clerkenwell Lodge of Installed Masters No. 9628. In the Royal Arch in Hertfordshire he is a member of Cloisters Chapter No. 7100 and in 2014 was promoted to Past Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemiah, having held the active ranks of Provincial Grand Steward and Provincial Grand Sojourner. In Middlesex he was a founder member of the Unity and Friendship Chapter No. 8224 and holds the rank of Past Provincial Grand Sword Bearer. With his partner Carol he is a member of the National Trust, English Heritage and the Historical Houses Association. He also enjoys golf, walking and watching a variety of sports. He was once a keen skier and would like to get back to that one day.
