The Lodge today

Eleanor Cross Lodge No 7033 meets at the Halsey Hall Masonic Centre , Walnut Tree House, Turner’s Hill, Cheshunt Herts and has as its members and candidates a mix of personalities, from various backgrounds and Countries, such as India, Italy, Albania and Kosovo, lending itself to a rich camaraderie, diversity and relaxed atmosphere. From our youngest member of 21 years to our oldest who celebrated his 60th year as a Mason in 2023, it provides a breadth of Masonic workings especially with a Joining member and Candidates waiting in the wings

Our history

The Lodge was formed and Consecrated on the 2nd of October 1950 by members of its Mother Lodge, King Harold Lodge No 1327, itself being Consecrated in 1870 and with whom we enjoy strong ties of friendship. Our first meeting was held at Halsey Hall on the 14th November 1950 and among its Honorary members were the Reverend Canon F. Halsey then the Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Hertfordshire and the Reverend Joseph Moffett his Deputy. At that meeting no less than 5 new joining members and 5 further Candidates were Balloted for with 2 of those Candidates being Initiated that very evening.
The Dining fee was 17shillings and 6 pence per head equivalent to 88p in today’s money.
The Lodge Banner (photo) dedication ceremony took place on 8th July 1952.

In 2025 we therefore celebrate our 75th Anniversary so in comparison to many we are a fairly young Lodge but are fortunate enough to include within our ranks members who have been honoured to have been introduced to Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth (photo)at St James's Palace and also the Grand Master, His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent along with other members of the Royal family at Freemason's Hall.

We also enjoy a special bond, through two of our members, with the Grand Lodge of New Zealand and have entertained some of their dignitaries including the Divisional Grand Master, RW Brother Mike Turner, who was pleased to meet and be greeted by our own Provincial Grand Master, RW Brother Neil Connolly at a Regular Lodge meeting in September 2023. In the community

Our Lodge upholds the excellence of Charity supporting its local Community with donations to Charitable causes including the Herts & Beds Blood Bikes, Cancer Charities and also to the not so well financed charities such as sponsorship of Victims of Domestic Violence. Some of our members are also volunteers within the Care sector locally. We have recently assisted with the raising of funds to help a 5 year old girl suffering with Ewings Sarcoma Disease, an aggressive form of cancer.

Testimonials

I have been a member of Eleanor Cross since my Initiation in 1995. I have had the privilege of meeting and knowing men of excellent character who I count among my closest friends. Our Lodge is in my view a happy place reflecting all that is good in Freemasonry.

I became a member of Eleanor Cross Lodge as a Joining member in 2006 being Proposed by its Secretary, a great friend and colleague of my late father, himself a Freemason. The Lodge has been a great support to me and my family and am happy to say that my Son and my Son-in-law have since become members of a unique Lodge where one feels at home.

Mark Frost.

Having become a Joining member in 2011 and despite being a native Italian who still hasn’t quite got full command of the English language I was made to feel so at home and surrounded by good men who embraced what Freemasonry is all about. I have just received my first Appointment and honour of which I am most proud and grateful to my fellow members for their recommendation and having such faith in me. (photo)

As mentioned previously we are a diverse group of men from varying backgrounds and professions, electricians, engineers, banking, carpenters and Public service etc. As such our meetings are relaxed and of an easy going mix of ritual, customs and joviality.
