The Lodge today
For more than 57 years the Ellenbrook Lodge No.8155 has created an enviable reputation for excellence within Hertfordshire Freemasonry. With a strong identify and building on traditional values, the lodge members are supportive of each other and have a bond of friendship that can last a lifetime. The Lodge fully embraces and consistently demonstrates the values of Freemasonry, Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service. The Lodge has an active social entertainment plan where family and friends are encouraged to attend and join the fun we create together. Today the Ellenbrook Lodge No.8155 has 43 members of all ages and backgrounds and boasts an excellent reputation for hosting visitors to our meetings and the Festive Board that follows (dining after meetings).
Our history
Some employees of the DeHaviland Aircraft Company (later Hawker Siddeley and British Aerospace) in Hatfield, Hertfordshire decided that they would attempt to form a new lodge based at Ashwell House St Albans. The question of a name for the new lodge was debated at length. The title “De Havilland Lodge” was rejected and ultimately the name “Ellenbrook” was agreed. This is in line with the practice of naming lodges after Hertfordshire rivers and streams. It also connects the lodge with the aircraft factory at Hatfield because the Ellen Brook passed in a tunnel under the airfield and emerges again near to the St Albans Road where the district name is Ellenbrook. The Scene is depicted on the lodge banner and on all our communications. The lodge was Consecrated on May 16th, 1967, by Col. Alexander Woods the Hertfordshire Provincial Grand Master.
In the community
Ellenbrook Lodge No.8155 has a long tradition of delivering support in the community through sponsorship and financial donations to Charity. Each year the new “Master” of the Lodge specifies his chosen Charity. These are often chosen because of personal experiences with those organisations. Throughout the year at Lodge meetings and social events we raise money through donations, raffles and on some occasions, auctions. At the end of each year, we donate considerable sums of money to those chosen charities. The Lodge is also a major supporter and contributor to the Masonic Charitable Foundation, an organisation funded entirely by Freemasons to help build better lives by encouraging opportunity, promoting independence and improving wellbeing.
Testimonials
The Ellenbrook Lodge No.8155 is very proud that several of its members have been selected to take on senior roles within the Hertfordshire Provincial management team during the last several years. In addition, two of its members have been awarded the Provincial Grand Masters “Certificate of Service to Freemasonry”.
