The Lodge today
Within the Lodge there is a wide mix of professions, ages and ethnicities. This gives us a good balance between having fun and delivering enjoyable ceremonies as one of the biggest Lodges meeting at Halsey Hall in Watford.
We believe we give both our members and our visitors the warm welcome they would hope for and encourage them to take part in both our Lodge meetings and our social events.
There are regular informal meet ups where we socialise, practice ritual and answer questions members may have on masonry.
The lodge also organises formal and informal social events like Ladies’ Weekends, White Tables and our Christmas gathering where family and friends can also join in.
Our history
Rickmansworth Lodge was consecrated on November 16th, 1887 at the Swan Hotel in Rickmansworth, at a time when there were only fifteen lodges in the Province. Making the lodge one of the oldest of the province.
The Provincial Grand Master at the time, RW.Bro TF Halsey, later Sir Frederick Halsey, served as the Worshipful Master for the consecration and duly installed WBro JE Dawson as the first Master.
The petition to form the lodge was sponsored by Wilson-Isles Lodge (2054) and over half the initial membership came from Watford Lodge (404).
Rickmansworth Lodge has had various homes in Rickmansworth and Watford over the early years, such the Swan Hotel, The Victoria Hotel, Freemasons' Hall, Watford, and the Buck’s Restaurant. The lodge finally settled down at Halsey Hall Watford in 1926, where it continues to meet to this day. Rickmansworth Lodge was one of the founding lodges of Halsey Hall in Watford.
The Lodge celebrated its 100th Anniversary at a meeting at the Rickmansworth Girls School.
In the community
We have a number of members who are active in various local community groups, including local parish council, charities etc., which provides feedback to the Lodge on any worthy causes that we could possibly support within our locality and this is communicated back to the Lodge.
During the last Provincial Festival the lodge earned the Platinum Award.
We support various charities such as the Association of Friends of Prince Michael of Kent Court, British Heart Foundation, Barchester Celebrating life, The Little Chalfont Dementia café, Cystic Fibrosis Dream Holidays, The Peace Hospice in Watford, Noah's Arc Children's Hospice amongst others.
