The Lodge today

Stevenage Lodge is a dynamic and forward-thinking Lodge, dedicated to continual growth, development, and improvement while honouring the traditions and values established by our Founders in 1961. A testament to this commitment is our ongoing practice of meeting in Dinner Suits at every gathering—a unique tradition that sets us apart as the only Lodge within Hertfordshire to uphold this standard.

Our history

The definition and identity of Stevenage Lodge were of paramount importance to our Founders when the Lodge was established in 1961. Drawing members from existing local lodges and Probus, it was essential for Stevenage Lodge to distinguish itself clearly from the very beginning. Named after Hertfordshire’s new town—an emblem of progressive thinking and optimism for the future—the Founders were determined to create a Lodge that balanced a strong sense of tradition with a forward-looking perspective.

In the community

At Stevenage Lodge, community and charity are at the heart of everything we do. We prioritise these values through regular fundraising activities, including race nights, sponsored bike rides, and the ever-popular Ladies’ Festivals. We are also continually seeking new and innovative ways to engage with and support our local community.

Other info

At Stevenage Lodge, we always welcome new enquiries from those interested in joining us. We have an open-door policy for anyone who fulfils the criteria of being a good, upstanding citizen, is committed to self-improvement, and—most importantly—upholds the core values of Freemasonry: Integrity, Respect, Friendship, and Service.
