Dave Edwards, “Hertfordshire Hero”

7 November, 2013

Over the past few weeks and months, Heart Radio has been running a campaign for Hertfordshire people to nominate and vote for a Hertfordshire resident who has made a significant contribution to the local society.

W. Bro. Dave Edwards PPGReg, a member of Croxley Green Lodge No. 8636, has for many years, festooned the whole of his house with Christmas Festive Lights.

Over the years this has amounted to many thousands of pounds being donated to a large number of charities.

Dave Edwards - Hertfordshire Hero

Every year, hundreds of families have visited Lancing Way in Croxley Green to appreciate that which is an undoubted spectacle, particularly for children. The lights will again be switched on this year at 6.00pm on Saturday 9th November.

This coincides with the news we heard today, that Dave has won the Hertfordshire nomination, and has been voted ‘Hertfordshire Hero for 2013’. Heart Radio and Channel 5 TV are publicising this news and the event on Saturday 9th November.

The Television cameras will be filming the ‘Switch On’ and will feature the event on the TV this weekend. They have been filming Dave, who is now nearly 80, for the past few weeks, while he was up and down the ladders and rooting about in his loft as the preparation of the lights takes place.

Dave will also, as the ‘new celebrity on the block’, be doing the official opening of the Christmas lights in Watford later.

So great congratulations to Dave and his family for his award, and for the continuing energies and efforts that they have made to benefit the large number of charitable causes over so many years.
