A joint Royal Arch Chapter and Craft initiative to increase the number of first aiders at masonic centres in Hertfordshire was launched in August at The Cloisters in Letchworth Garden City.
Although defibrillators are available at many centres, there are few people that have received any instruction in how to use them. The Deputy Grand Superintendent, David Hampton and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Neil Connolly are promoting this as a joint training initiative aimed at regular centre users.
The Provincial Grand Almoner, Robert Gurney, said “First aid is a life skill that everyone should have and we are delighted to be able to offer a limited number of free places for masons and staff at our centres to learn some emergency first aid skills”.
E Comp Paul Walker, who provides commercial First Aid training nationwide, is kindly delivering the training free of charge to those attending our centres. The one-day course provides basic lifesaving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations. Those who successfully complete the course receive an Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate that is valid for three years.
Deputy Grand Superintendent, David Hampton said “This is the first of many educational training seminars specifically targeted to the provision of first aiders in all our centres throughout the Province. It was a positive and productive day for all attendees who are better prepared to support a return to meetings and events at our masonic centres”.
