St. Albans Masonic Luncheon Club are delighted to announce Norwell Roberts QPM as their guest speaker at their next meeting.
Norwell was the first black police officer to join the Metropolitan Police in 1967. His journey is one that can only be described as inspirational. Experiencing racism throughout his formative years, having joined the Met Police, he experienced racism from day one. Despite the challenges faced, he moved steadily up the ranks to become detective sergeant. In 1996, he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in recognition of his pioneering role in British policing. In 1985, he became a Freemason, where he has also excelled.
Norwell will speak of his Service to the London Metropolitan Police Force as the first young Black Police Officer and how he dealt with racial abuse and persecution from his own colleagues. This will undoubtedly be an insightful and extremely powerful event that will highlight the power of overcoming adversity against all odds.
All are welcome to this event – Ladies, Gentlemen & Brethren with Masonic Connections, Past or Present to include Friends & Neighbours.
Lunch must be booked in advance. The cost is £25.00 per person.
