Gary was Initiated into Herutforda Lodge of Sincerity No 7632 in 1999 and became its Worshipful Master in 2006. He subsequently joined Hertfordshire Masters Lodge No 4090 and Hertfordshire Stewards Lodge No 8984, and was a Founder of Prince Hamlet Lodge No 9864; serving as Worshipful Master in 2017. Gary is also a member of the Royal Arch, as well as the Mark Master Mason and Royal Ark Mariner degrees.

Gary was born in Portsmouth in 1959, moved to London in the mid 1960s and then to Stevenage in 1969. He worked for BT for 38 years and is now retired.

Gary is an active member of the Stevenage Royal British Legion; raising money for the ongoing Poppy Appeal. In addition, his hobbies include watching Arsenal (where he is a season ticket holder), collecting football badges, and Northern Soul and Mod music.
